Water Management Practices in Water and Peace Axis

Day 2,11 May 2017, 12.45-14.00, Dolmabahçe A Hall
Convener: General Directorate of Water Management (SYGM)

Increasing water demand due to the rapid population growth has brought the water crisis to the global agenda. The quality and quantity of usable water resources and their allocation have become highly critical issues for decision makers considering the globalization process, urbanization and climate change effects. Furthermore, conflicts over economic, political and environmental issues have reached to a serious level with the increased water demand. This new agenda, aims to develop the basis for an action plan to improve well-being of people and world peace through the Sustainable Development Goals. Within this framework, the following global and national water resources management practices will be addressed: Drought Risk Detection, Flood Risk Mapping, Climate Change Effects on Water Resources, Sustainable and Fair Water Allocation Approaches, Migration Based Population Change Effects on Drinking Water Resources, Peaceful Water Management and Collaboration (exemplary case on the Maritsa River Basin).
